Privacy Policy for Joy

Effective date: 20 July 2026

Joy is a macOS application that celebrates meaningful developer milestones from services such as GitHub, Docker Hub, Stripe, and Lemon Squeezy.

This Privacy Policy explains what information Joy accesses, how it is used, where it is stored, and when information may be shared with third-party services.

1. Information stored on your Mac

Joy stores app information locally on your Mac using Apple's SwiftData framework.

This may include:

  • Celebrations you have configured
  • Selected integrations, repositories, products, or metrics
  • Celebration frequency and animation preferences
  • Last observed milestone values
  • Recent celebration activity
  • General application preferences

This locally stored information is used only to provide Joy's features.

Joy does not operate a cloud account system, and this data is not synchronized to Joy-operated servers.

2. Integration credentials

Joy may require authentication credentials, access tokens, or API keys to connect to supported third-party services.

Where applicable, sensitive credentials are stored securely in the macOS Keychain.

Joy uses these credentials only to make requests to the service selected by you. Joy does not sell these credentials or use them for advertising.

You can disconnect an integration from Joy to stop future access to that service.

3. Third-party integrations

Joy communicates directly with supported third-party APIs to retrieve milestone information.

Depending on the integrations you configure, Joy may access information such as:

  • GitHub repositories, stars, forks, watchers, and release-download counts
  • Docker Hub repositories, pull counts, and star counts
  • Stripe payment or transaction information required to detect eligible sales
  • Lemon Squeezy order or sales information required to detect eligible sales

Joy accesses only the information needed to monitor the milestones you configure.

Requests to these services are governed by the privacy policies and terms of the respective service providers.

Joy does not use information obtained from these integrations for advertising or user profiling.

4. Error reporting and diagnostics

Joy uses Sentry to identify crashes, errors, and performance problems.

When an error occurs, diagnostic information may be sent to Sentry. Depending on the circumstances and configuration, this information may include:

  • App version
  • macOS version
  • Device or operating-system information
  • Error messages
  • Crash details and stack traces
  • Technical events leading up to an error
  • A generated diagnostic identifier
  • Network or request metadata associated with the failure

Diagnostic reports are used only to improve Joy's stability, performance, and reliability.

Joy is configured to avoid intentionally sending integration credentials, API keys, access tokens, payment details, or other sensitive content to Sentry. However, unexpected information may occasionally appear in an error message or diagnostic record.

Diagnostic data is processed by Sentry in accordance with Sentry's own privacy and security practices.

5. Feedback

Joy allows you to submit feedback from within the app.

When you submit feedback, Joy may send the following information through Sentry:

  • The feedback message you enter
  • App version
  • macOS version
  • Relevant technical or diagnostic context
  • Your name or email address, only when you voluntarily provide it

Feedback is used to respond to users, investigate issues, and improve Joy.

Please do not include passwords, access tokens, payment details, or other sensitive information in feedback messages.

6. Purchases

Joy Pro purchases are processed by Apple through the Mac App Store and StoreKit.

Joy receives information necessary to determine whether Joy Pro has been purchased, restored, refunded, or revoked. Joy does not receive or store your full payment-card information.

Apple's handling of payment and purchase information is governed by Apple's own privacy policy and terms.

7. Information Joy does not use

Joy does not use your information for:

  • Third-party advertising
  • Cross-app tracking
  • Selling personal information
  • Building advertising profiles
  • Data-broker activities

Joy does not include advertising SDKs.

8. Data retention

Information stored through SwiftData remains on your Mac until you delete it, remove the relevant configuration, reset the app, or uninstall Joy.

Credentials stored in macOS Keychain may need to be removed separately, depending on macOS behaviour and how the integration was disconnected.

Error reports and feedback submitted through Sentry may be retained for a limited period according to Joy's Sentry retention settings and Sentry's applicable policies.

9. Deleting your data

You can remove data associated with Joy by:

  • Deleting configured celebrations
  • Disconnecting integrations
  • Removing stored credentials from Joy or macOS Keychain
  • Deleting Joy's local application data
  • Uninstalling Joy

To request deletion of feedback or diagnostic data that may be associated with you, contact: jawahars.selvaraj@gmail.com

Provide enough information for the request to be identified, but do not send passwords or API credentials.

10. Data security

Joy uses reasonable technical measures to protect information handled by the app.

These measures may include:

  • macOS App Sandbox
  • macOS Keychain for sensitive credentials
  • Encrypted HTTPS connections to supported APIs
  • Limited access to data required for Joy's functionality

No storage or transmission system can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

11. Children's privacy

Joy is intended for software developers and is not directed toward children.

Joy does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

12. Changes to this policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated when Joy adds integrations, features, or changes its data practices.

The latest version will always be available at this page. The effective date at the top will be updated when material changes are made.
